Minimal Lagrangian Surfaces in S 2 × S 2
We deal with the minimal Lagrangian surfaces of the EinsteinKähler surface S × S, studying local geometric properties and showing that they can be locally described as Gauss maps of minimal surfaces in S ⊂ R. We also discuss the second variation of the area and characterize the most relevant examples by their stability behaviour.

Sometimes you can get to your destination just by following the crowd. Baker et al. report that photoreceptor proteins lacking targeting sequences end up in the right place thanks to their more abundant, and more goal-oriented, fellow travelers. Rod and cone cells are divided into four compartments: a synaptic terminal, a nuclear region, an inner segment for protein and lipid synthesis, and an ...
متن کاملSubtle BBB-Breakdown Detection in Neurodegenerative Disease
There is growing interest in investigating the role of subtle changes in blood-brain barrier (BBB) function in common neurological disorders, such as dementia [1,2], Alzheimer’s disease [3], type II diabetes [4] and cerebral microvascular disease [5,6]. Several studies have used dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI) to assess the state of the BBB in these diseases and have demonstrated...
متن کاملA novel hypothesis of blood-brain barrier (BBB) development and in vitro BBB model: neural stem cell is the driver of BBB formation and maintenance
There is an ongoing effort to develop in vitro models for the blood-brain barrier (BBB) research and the central nervous system (CNS) drug screening. But the phenotypes of the existing in vitro models are still very remote from those found in vivo. The trouble in establishing in vitro BBB models comes from the unclear mechanism of the BBB formation and maintenance. The astrocytes have been foun...
متن کاملFormation and maintenance of the BBB
The central nervous system (CNS) is vascularized by a dense capillary network that is critical to deliver oxygen and nutrients, and remove carbon dioxide and waste products, from the neural tissue. These blood vessels contain a series of properties, termed the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which distinguishes them from vasculature in other tissues, enabling CNS vessels to stringently regulate the ...
